Project summary
The saying “judging a book by its cover” has a whole new meaning when you design the cover! But really, I was honored to work with Sewell Hall and create some book cover designs for his last four books.
“The Winter of Life” Mr. Hall had a pretty good idea of what he wanted - a front and back that would show winter and spring. Both of these images were extra special as they were taken by his son.
“Mary, Model of Motherhood” Mr. Hall was open to any ideas I had. Since we had used a family connection to the last cover, I suggested we do something similar here. Thus we used an image of his granddaughter and great-grandson. However, unless you know them the image is filtered in a way to feel like it could be anyone.
“Jesus: Model of Manhood” We wanted a visual idea associated with walking together along the shoreline. This design has the footsteps coming from the reader’s viewpoint, and thus in a way inviting them to follow this path.
“God’s Family In Heaven and on Earth” Presented the greatest design challenge for us thus far! Wanting to have a design that could show perhaps individuals in a Heavenly and Earthly family proved complicated and after several mockups we landed on conveying this idea with a celestial view.
